Prophecy as future knowledge
The concept of prophecy, which is central to Hopi tradition, speaks to a different understanding of how the future is known. Prophecies are passed down orally and foretell signs that mark the final days of the current Fourth World and the coming Fifth World. This foreknowledge comes from spiritual guidance and wisdom, not from physically visiting a different point in time. It is a spiritual and ethical map, not a travel itinerary. I created this piece by channeling the spirit of a Hopi native artist. It’s images represent the web of time, community, protection and duality.
